Global Citizenship Alliance

The Global Citizenship Alliance (GCA) is dedicated to promoting education for engaged knowledge and responsible action in an interdependent world. We were founded in 2015 as a non-profit organization in the U.S., however, our origin dates back to 2004 when we began as a program of renowned Salzburg Global in Austria, with which we maintain a strong partnership today. We partner with colleges and universities in the U.S. and internationally to empower students who:

• Understand their role in a globally interconnected society and how local actions influence global outcomes and vice versa.

• Possess a critical understanding of the global issues and challenges facing humanity and the planet.

• Are equipped with the knowledge, attitudes, values, skills, capacities, and empathy to engage with global systems in ways that foster justice, inclusion, pluralism, and ethical leadership.

• Develop abilities to collaborate across cultures and engage in civil discourse across difference.

• Are inspired and empowered to make a positive impact in their overlapping local, national, and global communities.

We offer transformative, short-term residential international programs for college and university students from community colleges to graduate program, as well as weeklong workshops for faculty and administrators, in the historic Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg. Our aim is to spark, advance, and support institutional strategies for global citizenship education and engagement—helping campuses integrate these values into their core academic and cultural fabric.

We have partnered with more than 100 institutions across the world and more 4,500 individuals have participated in our Seminars. Starting in 2026, we will accept individual applicants for our Student and Faculty/Administrator programs.
