University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC)

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is a leading teaching and research hospital equipped with advanced medical technology and expert care. UMC is the only hospital in El Paso to be named one of America’s Top 100 Hospitals twice.

UMC is the only Level I trauma center within a 270-mile radius and is the designated facility to receive the president of the United States if medical care is required while visiting the area.

UMC is the first teaching hospital in Texas to fully upgrade its robotic surgery program to the state-of-the-art da Vinci 5 platform. It is home to the region’s only Level I stroke center and Joint Commission-certified comprehensive stroke center and is accredited as a chest pain center by ACC Accreditation Services.

UMC is the region’s first Level IV maternal care hospital and an officially certified Baby-Friendly hospital. The UMC Digestive Health Center serves as a regional referral destination for gastrointestinal care.

In 2025, UMC's Emergency Department earned Level 2 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation and its outpatient clinics were recognized as Level 2 Age-Friendly: Committed to Care Excellence facilities. UMC is also the first hospital in El Paso to earn Level III epilepsy center accreditation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers and the first hospital in the region to offer extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Committed to nursing excellence, UMC was the first hospital in El Paso to earn the Pathway to Excellence designation, and its nurse residency program is nationally accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

UMC serves as the official hospital partner of Texas Tech Health El Paso and its upcoming Fox Cancer Center, providing comprehensive cancer care for the region.
