Society for Establishing Sustainable Manufacturers (SESM)
Professional Organizations
Overview
Alexander Hamilton founded the Society for Establishing Useful Manufacturers (S.U.M.) in 1791 to kickstart the Industrial Revolution in the United States by creating in effect an industrial park in Paterson, NJ.
Taking a page from Hamilton, the Society for Establishing Sustainable Manufacturers (SESM) is a nonprofit corporation founded with the intent of creating Eco-Industrial Campuses.
SESM’s vision is to facilitate industrial symbiosis by developing and supporting the infrastructure (and green omni-utility) where contract manufacturers, CDMOs, manufacturing startups and small businesses can thrive in a sustainable cooperative space.
SESM’s mission is to promote the Fifth Industrial Revolution (Industry 5.0) and New Industrial Urbanism through repurposing of brownfield properties (e.g. former New England mills, vacant malls) into Eco-Industrial Campuses.
