Demir İpekyolu (Bakü-Tiflis-Kars) ile Asya; Avrupa demiryolu ile de Avrupa Birliği ülkeleri arasında bağlantı kuracak olan Railport, Asya ile Avrupa, Avrupa ile Balkan ve Orta Asya (CIS) ülkeleri arasında gerçekleşecek taşımalarda köprü görevi görmek amacıyla konumlandırılmıştır. Yol ve Kuşak Girişimi kapsamında (Belt and Road Initiative – BRI) Trans-Asya Demiryolu Ağı ile Orta Doğu, Rusya, Ukrayna, Azerbaycan ve Gürcistan'a uzanan Çin ve Orta Asya güzergâhını, Türkiye ve Avrupa ile bütünleşmiş bir hale getirecektir.
