Motion Design | Automation & Software Solutions

Nearly 30 years ago, Motion Design began in a humble tractor shed in Muriwai with a classic New Zealand ‘No. 8 wire’ mentality — practical, resourceful and driven to build smarter solutions.

Today, we are leaders in industrial automation, delivering fully integrated solutions that streamline manufacturing, production lines, steel, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and laboratory environments. Through custom automation systems, software, AI, and machine vision, we provide intelligent end-to-end solutions tailored to each application.

Motion Design designs and manufactures specialist laboratory automation systems used in milk, soil, and food testing laboratories worldwide. We are leaders in milk testing automation systems - like the ILAS3000, ILAS3200 and more and have supported dairy laboratories locally and internationally for more than two decades, helping improve efficiency, accuracy, traceability, and repeatability in high-throughput testing environments.

Our team brings extensive combined expertise in automation engineering and software development. As a 100% New Zealand-owned and operated one-stop shop, we specialise in bespoke solutions — designing, building, and controlling complete machine systems in-house.

Our capabilities include mechanical design and construction, robot integration, AI and machine vision, laboratory automation, machine safety assessments, and customised software development. We work closely with our customers to understand operational challenges and deliver tailored automation systems that optimise processes, improve throughput, and enhance overall efficiency.

As the New Zealand distributors for leading brands including Bentley Instruments, DOBOT, DH Robotics, Boston Gear, Thomson Linear, and Kollmorgen — and as a certified Beckhoff Solutions Provider — we are committed to delivering high-quality automation solutions across New Zealand and abroad.
