Kimya Mühendisliği Bölümü, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesinin 1773 den gelen uzun geçmişi düşünüldüğünde yeni sayılabilecek bölümlerden birisidir. İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi’nde Kimya Mühendisliği eğitimi, 4 yıllık lisans programı şeklinde 1958 yılında İTÜ Teknik Okulu Kimya Şubesinde başlamış ve ilk kimya mühendisi ünvanlı mezunlarını 1962 yılında vermiştir.
