O Grupo AVG foi fundado em 1991, dedicado aos segmentos de Mineração e Siderurgia, administrado por Bernardo A. V. Gontijo e Rodrigo A. V. Gontijo. Os empreendimentos incluem a extração e beneficiamento de minério de ferro e a produção de Ferro Gusa.
Em 1993, a companhia incorporou as competências de gestão de Silvicultura e produção de carvão vegetal às suas atividades.
Em 2012, o ramo automotivo entrou para o portfólio da AVG com a aquisição das concessionárias Saitama Honda. Atualmente são três unidades e duas lojas de seminovos, em Minas Gerais.
