Decentralized Science Lab

Decentralization in computing has gained significant momentum, moving well beyond blockchain and cryptocurrencies. At its core, decentralization is a paradigm shift—distributing data, intelligence, and control away from single points of failure. When applied to artificial intelligence, decentralization is not only an efficiency strategy but also a foundation for security, trust, and autonomy. From safeguarding sensitive training data to enabling self-healing systems that can adapt and recover from adversarial threats, decentralized AI frameworks open new pathways for building robust, transparent, and resilient intelligent systems.

The Decentralized Science Lab (dSL) at Kennesaw State University is advancing this frontier. Our research sits at the intersection of AI, decentralization, and security, with a strong emphasis on autonomous and self-healing AI. We explore federated learning, privacy-preserving techniques, and cryptographic safeguards to design intelligent systems that are not only trustworthy but also capable of proactive defense and recovery. The lab tackles pressing challenges in AI safety, LLM security, secure distributed learning, and quantum-resilient security. Directed by Dr. Reza M. Parizi, dSL is shaping the next generation of autonomous, secure, and decentralized AI innovation.
