Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales (CCHS-CSIC)

The CCHS was created by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in 2007 and since 2012 it has been a service centre with the mission of providing technical and management support to the institutes gathered at its headquarters in Madrid. There are six institutes belonging to the Humanities and Social Sciences of the CSIC:

Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography

Institute of Politics and Public Goods

Institute of History

Institute of Philosophy

Institute of Language and Cultures of the Mediterranean and the Middle East

Institute of Language, Literature and Anthropology

It also serves the Institute of Archaeology of Merida (IAM).

The CCHS is organised into 13 technical and management service units; among these units is the Tomás Navarro Tomás Library, the largest library specialising in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Spain.

Numerous research activities are carried out at the CCHS headquarters, covering a wide range of topics and providing the opportunity for cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary studies.

The mission of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas is the promotion, coordination, development and dissemination of multidisciplinary scientific and technological research, with the aim of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and to economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the training of personnel and the provision of advice to public and private entities in these areas (art. 4 Statute).
