BIGDaTA Lab conducts research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms for big data analytics, with a focus on text analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Our current research projects include several NLP initiatives related to the legal and medical domains. In the legal domain, we have several project teams working on Turkish legal documents such as laws, regulations, court decisions, and legal precedents. These projects include the development of a semantic search engine, keyword extraction, court decision classification, Q&A systems for law articles and regulations, text summarization of court decisions, and natural language generation for creating petitions. In the medical domain, our research is primarily focused on radiology reports. We have several project groups working on ICD-10 classification of CT reports and named entity recognition from radiology reports. Our goal is to use AI and machine learning to provide actionable insights and solutions to challenges in these domains. We are motivated to find AI-based solutions to increase the service quality of both domains, as professionals in both fields are burdened by an extremely heavy workload. Our aim is to create AI-based decision support systems for medical and legal practitioners to ease their workload, improve their quality of life, and therefore increase the service quality and response time for all citizens.
