1979 yılında belediye önderliğinde kurulan ve resmi üretime 1982 yılında geçen BESAŞ Halk Ekmek Fabrikası yıllık toplam 70 milyon adet ekmek üreterek kentin ekmek ihtiyacının %20 sini karşılamaktadır. Temel amacı Bursa halkına Kaliteli, Sağlıklı, Hijyenik ve Ekonomik ekmek ve ekmek çeşitleri, unlu mamuller, süt ve süt ürünleri üreterek, piyasada denge unsuru olmaktır.
BESAŞ Halk Ekmek Fabrikası, Bursa’nın en büyük, Türkiye’nin ise üçüncü büyük ekmek üretim tesisidir. Bursa Organize Sanayi Bölgesinde 13.500 metrekarelik alanda kurulu olan fabrikada toplam 6.400 metrekarelik kapalı alanda, 5 adet tünel tipi fırınla, el değmeden tam otomatik makinelerle günde 300.000 adet (400 gr.) ekmek üretme kapasitesine sahiptir.
