Align AI Foundation

The Align AI Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that artificial intelligence develops safely, remains aligned with human values, and benefits all of humanity. As AI systems grow more powerful and are deployed across national security, healthcare, finance, and critical infrastructure faster than they can be fully understood or reliably controlled. The foundation funds the rigorous, independent research needed to keep humans in the loop. Its work spans three interconnected domains: AI alignment (ensuring systems consistently act on human intentions), AI safety (building systems that remain dependable and non-harmful in real-world conditions), and AI ethics (protecting fairness, privacy, and human rights in automated decision-making). Fully independent and free of corporate revenue or conflicts of interest, the foundation takes a theory-agnostic, evidence-driven approach deliberately funding neglected research directions that larger institutions overlook, from subtle goal drift to scalable oversight of increasingly autonomous systems. Through multi-year research grants, compute and engineering support, and transparent, measurable reporting, the Align AI Foundation exists to close one of the most consequential gaps of our time: over $100 billion flows annually into making AI more powerful, while less than 1% of that goes toward making it safe.
