In 1946 Warren AVIS opened the world’s first airport car rental location at Willow Run Airport, Detroit, with a total of three cars. The company grew rapidly during the '50’s through franchised and corporate-owned expansion. By now, the company operates in over 5.200 locations in 165 countries worldwide. The first location in Amsterdam, The Netherlands opened its doors in 1956.
1963 – “We Try Harder” Avis campaign was launched. It is now acknowledged as one of the 10 best advertising slogans of all time and embedded as the very essence of the company’s culture.
1975 – Mr. Hareb Mohammed Al Otaiba, a highly respected and prominent businessman, was successful in securing the franchise for Avis in the United Arab Emirates and the company’s first office was opened in Abu Dhabi. Following Avis’ initial success it was Mr. Hareb Mohammed Al Otaiba’s vision to expand throughout the country. Avis then expanded into Dubai & Northern emirates.
